proposition 65 statement for californians
Proposition 65 is a California law officially known as the California Safe Drinking Water
and Toxic Enforcement Act, approved by California voters in 1986. The purpose of
Proposition 65 is to ensure that people are informed about exposure to one or more of the
900 chemicals listed by the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects and/or other
reproductive harm. Proposition 65 requires any businesses e.g. manufacturers, distributors
and retail sellers making sales to customers in California to give a “clear and reasonable
warning” for products containing chemicals on the Prop 65 chemical list if those products
expose consumers to such chemicals above certain threshold levels
